The IGLC2013 brings together researchers from around the world who study the lean philosophy (Toyota’s production philosophy) as applied in construction. This event takes place every year somewhere in the world so that these researchers can present and discuss the results of their research and debate about the future of the area and new research prospects to be developed.

The formation of this group of researchers started from the seminal work of Lauri Koskela, who made a conceptual adaptation of the principles of lean production for civil construction, calling these new concepts lean construction. From this work, researchers began to develop research by deepening discussions on the concepts and introducing new conceptual developments on this theory. Thus, this theory spread and a small group of researchers decided to meet to discuss and share the knowledge generated on the subject, then forming the IGLC (International Group for Lean Construction). Afterwards, the group of adherents has grown and many research papers (doctoral theses and masters dissertations) have been developed over the years, increasingly consolidating the group. Currently, the group has representatives on the five continents.
